Auto Body Blog: New Research, Stunning Facts and Industry News

Hi, my name is Ken. I am an avid golfer, a reading lover and an auto body and paint DIY amateur. During the week, I work as a financial consultant, and I love my job. However, I get tired of advising people about maintaining their fortunes, and in the evening, I like to do things that feel more mechanical and even artistic in a way. That's why I decided to write this blog. Here, I am going to post all about auto body news and information. I like to keep up to date on what's new as well as exploring tried-and-true facts about the industry. If you need a repair or are thinking about doing one yourself, I hope these posts help you. Enjoy.

3 Services Offered by a Panel Beating Auto Shop

As a car owner, you may have heard of a panel beating auto shop but not had a clear idea of what these professionals offer. So to help you understand the value they can provide for your motor vehicle, here are some of the most common services that they offer.

Panel Beating—One of the obvious services that these professional offer is known as panel beating. Panels form the main body of the vehicle, and when your car is in an accident, you will often find damage to the doors and frame of your car. Auto shop mechanics trained in panel beating will often replace the framing structure inside the panels, which is responsible for keeping the body of your vehicle in place. Panel beating also involves buffing out surface damage such as scratches, flaking and peeling.

Dent Repair—The panels of your car aren't the only part of the vehicle that may suffer dents in an accident, which is why dent repair is another specialty of a panel beating auto shop. Whether the dent came as a result of a crash, or some object hit your vehicle to cause the dent, a panel beating auto shop mechanic can fix small dents through a process known as paintless dent repair, or tackle big dents through a process known as reskinning.

Paintless dent repair is a process in which an auto mechanic uses rods, picks and suction cups to pull out the dents without affecting the paint. This process can save you hundreds of dollars, because you won't have to pay to have a paint retouch or an entire paint job. But if your car has major dents, a mechanic may have to perform what is known as reskinning, in which a new skin of your door and body frames is ordered from the original manufacturer, and the old damaged skin of the door and frame is removed and replaced with the new skin.

Respray—Panel beating auto shops also offer respray services, in which a vehicle that has been repaired after suffering damage in an accident is sprayed with a new coat of paint. These shops use computerized colour matching to ensure that the new paint matches the exact shade of the existing paint. A respray can involve your entire car, or it can be limited to one section of your vehicle such as the hood or front panel.
